Hydrochlorothiazide is a sulfonamide derivative. Itblocks the Na/Cl co-transporter in the early segment of the distal convoluted tubule. Thiazides INCREASE calciumlevels in the blood. Other side effects include:hypokalemia, hypochloremic metabolic alkalosis, hyperuricemia, hyperglycemia, hyponatremia.
