Prevention is key to function preservation, should focus on limiting risk factors which include :
- Creatinine greater than 1.5 mg/dL
- GFR < 60 ml/min
- Diabetic nephropathy
- Hypovolemia
- High doses of contrast media
- Multiple myeloma
Treatments that appear to be effective contrast nephropathy include :
- Periprocedural continuous hemofiltration
- Oral N-acetylcysteine
- Bicarconate infusion
