Definition
Small PDAs are asymptomatic. Hemodynamically significant PDAs create a left to right shunt and may lead to congestive heart failure. Aortic runoff reduces diastolic pressure and decreases coronary, cerebral, and abdominal perfusion. Echocardiography assists in the diagnosis.
