Definition
Hydrochlorothiazide is a sulfonamide derivative. It blocks the Na/Cl co-transporter in the early segment of the distal convoluted tubule. Thiazides INCREASE calcium levels in the blood. Other side effects include : hypokalemia, hypochloremic metabolic alkalosis, hyperuricemia, hyperglycemia, hyponatremia.
