POCD – Predictors

Independent risk factors for POCD include increasing age, lower educational level, and a history of stroke without residual impairment. These risk factors are believed to indicate a decreased cognitive reserve that puts the patient at risk. POCD is common in adult patients of all ages, but patients older than 60 years of age are at significant risk of long-term cognitive problems.
